The Otay Valley Regional Park (OVRP), with a planning area of almost 9,000 acres, stretches 13-miles. It provides important habitat for wildlife, including endangered and threatened species, and is a community asset for healthy open space and recreation. WiLDCOAST is building community support to preserve and restore of this beautiful river valley.

The Otay River Valley is a diverse ecosystem containing at least 14 habitat types and many rare and endangered plant and animal species. In all, more than 50 sensitive plant species are known to exist in this valley. The Otay River corridor, linking the San Diego Bay to the Otay Mountain, and several of the tributary canyons constitutes significant habitat for many riparian and upland animals species and is a major regional wildlife corridor. The area is known to support rare, threatened, and endangered animal species including American badger, California gnatcatcher, Least Bell’s vireo, Quino Checkerspot butterfly, Coastal cactus wren, golden eagle, western pond turtle, coopers’ hawk and more than many other species.

The Western OVRP features multi-use trails where visitors can hike, bike and even ride a horse. See the trail map below:
