VICTORY for California, Prop 67 Passed!

After a long battle to uphold the previously passed ban on plastic bags, this Tuesday, California voted YES on Prop 67 to say good bye for good!

The ban takes effect immediately, which means grocery stores, convenience stores, and liquor stores will no longer provide single-use plastic carry out bags to customers. So make sure to get your reusable bag with you everytime you go to the store!

Over 150 cities and counties across California, including major cities like San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles had already banned bags. If their ordinance was adopted before January 1st, 2015, they are allowed to continue to operate under their own guidelines, otherwise they must comply with the new state law.

Thank you to all our amazing partner organizations, groups and people that worked so hard for this achievement. Though there is still a lot of work to be done in order to keep our oceans cleaner and healthier, this is a big step and our wildlife, our beaches, our streets and our kids will be thankful for it.
